Starve to be pretty

I’m going to talk about something that frequently happens in the idol world in south Korea.

Fat shaming and Body Shaming.

We have to know that in the south Korean culture facial features and body features are somethings really important and we can see a lot of body products and everything going with this. They also have an important attention to their weigh. The ideal weigh for a man is 69 kg and for a woman it’s 57 kg or less.

I bet you’re starting to understand where I’m going. Idols are music celebrities and they have to respect these beauty standards to not receive hate when it comes to their body. In general, female idols are the target of haters when it comes to fat shaming. So, they usually go through drastic diets and drastic weigh loss because they are considered as unpretty.

Let’s take an example. Wendy from the group Red Velvet is a Canadian Korean singer. She debuted with a “regular weigh” but soon was targeted as big because she slightly gained weight. Comment on the net were telling her to lose weight telling her she looked ugly that she was a pig and some asked her to leave the group.

After those harsh comments we saw a few weeks later Wendy in a sight that I would’ve rather never see before.

She was weak and her bones were showing. She lost so much weight that everyone knew she was not ok. But the haters came back not to praise her but to say that she was scary and looked like she was about to die. After that Wendy gained some weight again and never did a drastic weigh loss ever again. She reassured her fans by saying she’s now healthy.

This is an example but this happens to almost every group and I believe this is not ok at all because when you listen to music you shouldn’t “force” the singers to lose some weight and harass them through the comments or Dm them just to tell the “Hey you’re fat and Ugly”.

That’s just something that I can’t stand and don't understand.
